Occupy Compassion
Sponsored by Compassion Music
We are are a growing community of People in Scotland and around The World who have responded to, and been inspired by, the inception of the Occupy Movement.
We feel that understanding how we communicate as human beings is essential in developing positive action. To that end we want to develop a compassion based economy as a means of bringing about creative and inclusive ways of active education through our projects, beginning with communication. We are currently exploring Non Violent Communication, the Circle Way and the Sedona Method, all to support our relationships. We are also learning new ways to live and function, ethical shopping and sustainability matter to us.
The inspiration for these projects really came about while some people from Occupy met at a place of sanctuary in Bute, which we are hoping to develop as a place for workshops and gatherings. We are therefore sometimes known as the Bute Circle.
The Bute Statement was developed at this initial meeting and can be found here:

This website contains a variety of information which aims to provide an overview of the global Occupy Movement
The overarching aim is to work with a compassion based economy building a sustainable future and at the same time learn a transformational language. This language is built up from our innate ability for compassion. Occupy Compassion is about creating the enabling conditions for growth of community, essentially giving life to emotional well-being and health.
As a political pressure group we are dedicated to creating an attitude change at grass roots level, enabling people to find their voice in a participative democracy. We are committed to using this powerful cultural shift to ensure that those we have selected to be responsible for managing the affairs of our country, do so with integrity, a sense of justice and fairness, and with the aim of the welfare of all the people, not only the few that have exploited nations and ravaged the earth to satisfy their personal greed. Our Vision is to replace the current conflict dominated culture with a new one based on compassion and consensus. The training we are promoting has been successfully used in situations of conflict, it has the power to enable social change and transform society.
This video clip identifies a key problem within our society, which is how we communicate. Amongst the leaders of our country there is little evidence of respect, compassion, dignity, warmth or integrity, yet their behaviour serves as a model and is replicated throughout our society. Conflict, antagonistic exchanges and point-scoring grip hold instead of any effort to listen with respect, attempt to understand another point of view, let alone find a solution that meets everyone’s needs. Adults emulate this behaviour because it is deemed acceptable; children are exposed and follow suit. Effective communication is integral to building connection with one another and, ultimately, a new consciousness to effect real change.
