What is Compassionate Communication (CC) or Non Violent Communication (NVC)
Introducing our inner self.....
Society, interpersonal relationships and how we learned to be
Most of us have been educated from birth to compete, judge, demand and diagnose — to think and communicate in terms of what is “right“ and “wrong“ with people.
We express our feelings in terms of what another person has “done to us.” We struggle to understand what we want or need in the moment, and how to effectively ask for what we want without using unhealthy demands, threats or coercion. As founder of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. says:
“What others do may be a stimulus of our feelings, but not the cause.” At best, thinking and communicating this way can create misunderstanding and frustration, or simply keep us from getting what we want. It can also keep us from the fulfilling relationships we deserve. And still worse, it can lead to anger, depression and even emotional or physical violence.
Lets hear Marshal Rosenberg explain Giraffe Ears and Jackal talk:
Why the interest in Communication and Compassion?
Essentially, communication, can be invisibly disempowering. This is because much communication is learned by osmosis within old paradigms. Awareness in communication seems to be valuable in moving forward. So far this project has been looking to important communicators such as Rosenberg, a psychologist, whose life interest was all about people and communities communicating in difficult situations, not least in war torn areas. His work is gaining some momentum within Occupy in other parts of the World, and his method is known as Non Violent Communication. Other equally inspiring approaches to gaining awareness in communication, in self and in community, come from the inclusive insight of the Sedona Method and the Circle Way. In all these approaches compassion presents naturally, with awareness. So much so, that some call Rosenbergs work Non Violent Compassionate Communication. Even within a radical and diverse grouping of people the insights that come from taking an incisive look at the mechanics of communication present as Compassionate Communication.
The stakes are high, the debate is in the developing scientific research, it's in how we survive in the developed world. The importance of this project is highly significant, compassion is the back bone of the movement and without it the movement might not progress in a meaningful way. An essential ingredient if we want to manifest change to a system in the West without violence and bloodshed. Check out this video below |
